Nothing says summer quite like ice cream. A double-scoop of vanilla, chocolate or strawberry, the options for this favorite treat are endless. And it’s all made possible thanks to the nation’s dairy farmers and the Registered Holstein® cow. This summer, Holstein Association USA celebrates farm families from coast to coast during the second episode of Holstein America, 9 p.m. CDT, Thursday, Aug. 9 on RFD-TV. Mark the calendar or set the DVR to record this anticipated television broadcast. “The nation’s dairy farmers produced milk to supply more than 1 billion gallons of ice cream in 2017, and that’s the result of countless hours spent caring for their cows,” says John Meyer, CEO of Holstein Association USA. “We’re honored to introduce these individuals and families in the Holstein America series.” The hour-long program, sponsored by Merck Animal Health, pays tribute to the iconic, black-and-white cow. Shining a light on some of the people behind the Holstein cow, the show introduces hardworking men and women who have devoted their lives to U.S. Registered Holsteins; each cow an improvement on the past. The Holstein cow provides the world’s perfect food: high-quality, nutritious dairy products that are the cornerstone of most modern diets. Today, the breed accounts for more than 90 percent of U.S. milk production. Levels made possible thanks to continuous improvements in efficiency and productivity. In Holstein America, learn about modern-day dairy production and hear from those with a passion for Registered Holsteins. From California's lush central valley to cornfields in Iowa to the banks of the Hudson River in New York, each family shares their unique story of the Holstein cow. Holstein America premiered in February 2018 on RFD-TV. Join us for the second episode at 9 p.m. CDT, Thursday, Aug. 9.
